-動詞-

◆適切な動詞の選択

● They passed out fliers to advertise (→publicize) the event. (A)

● I’m afraid I can’t ( answer / fill / meet / reply to ) your request.

→(A):どれも可。

※Netspeakにはどれもあり。respond toが一番多い。  

He won’t be able to be (→become) a professional player. (A)

→(B):どちらも可能。beは何かの事情で,becomeは能力的にプロになれないというニュアンス。

● @ I wish I had brought in the laundry before it began raining.

A I wish I had brought in the laundry before it started to rain.

→(A・B):Aを使う/(B)beginは一定の時間をかけて,startは突然(quite sudden)起こるイメージ。雨が降り出すのは突然だから,begin rainingは不自然。

● Such was the force of the explosion that all the windows were broken to pieces (→blown out). (A)

● Are we going to catch the train? --- No. I’m afraid we are not going to catch (→make) it.  (A)

● This novel will be cinematized. → 言わない?(A)

● I was choked by the smoke.(煙でむせた) → 言わない(A)  

● Coffee, which is drunk around the world, is said to come from (→have originated in) Ethiopia. (A)

● How did you come by this beautiful Chinese vase? (同意語句選択)(中央大)

※おそらく「decreasingが修飾するのは数量を表す名詞」ということ。

● It is reported that the typhoon has gone (→passed by). (A・B)

→(B):goneは「(熱帯性低気圧になって)disappearした」の意味なら可。

I hear (→Someone told me) Lisa is thinking of changing jobs. Did you know that? (A)

● I think you lack (→need more) exercise. (A) 

→(A):原文は響きがきつい。

● I lost (→can't find [locate]) my umbrella. I’m looking for it now.  (A) 

→(A):探して見つかるようならlostではない。lostは「永遠に失くした」ように響く。

● I’m glad to ( meet / see ) you again.

→(A):meetも可。/(B):改まった会合ならmeetも可。

● I’ll ( meet / see ) you at the airport.

→(A):seeも可/(B)R:カジュアルな会話で「空港へ迎えに行く」という話の流れがあるならseeも可。

● We had lunch together, went to see a movie, and parted (→left each other) at five. (A)

→(A):partedは堅い表現で日常的ではない。

I should have ( booked / reserved ) a little earlier.

→(A):reservedも可/(B):reservedは不可。他動詞としてreserve a seatのように使う。

● This bicycle can run (→go) as fast as 80 kilometers an hour. (A)

● I can hear cicadas singing (→chirping,またはcicadasをbirdsに). (A)

● He raised his hand to stop (→catch) a taxi. (A)  

They thought (→admired, respected, were impressed by) how fluently the guide spoke English.

→(B):useは道具として(何かをするのに)使うこと。

動詞の語法

● They accused him of theft.=They charged him with theft. (書き換え問題)

→(A・B):同じ意味ではない。chargeができるのは警察だけ。

● He finally agreed to the offer (→contract, proposal). (A)

● @I was asked for a speech for her wedding reception.

AI was asked for an interview for the company magazine.

→(A・B):どちらも不可。@はfor→to make [give] とする。

● I came to be interested in volunteer activities. (辞書の説明では下線部はbecameにすべきだが,許容されるか?)

→(A・B):許容される。

● When did you decide on your marriage with her (→on the trip to Spain)? (A)

→(A):原文の下線部はto get married to herが普通。

● be frozen to death (凍死する)→(A):言わない。freeze to deathが正しい。

I here our teacher is getting (      ) in June.

→(A):Cも別解となりうる。(get to do=〜できる)  

●This exercise ( helps / helps you ) lose weight.

Jogging ( helps / helps you ) to stay healthy.

→(A・B):どちらの文もyouが必要。

→(A):問題ない/(B):had to standに訂正(kept standingは立ったり座ったりを繰り返す意味)。

● I can’t believe the news that Kazu is retiring as a player (→from soccer).  (A)

shave oneself(ひげをそる)→ 言わない (A・B)  

● Let’s start (→leave) right away.(A)  

● She thinks me as a highly dependable person. <必要な1語を補う>(津田塾大)

→(A):正解はthinks of だが,Shakespeareの英語なら原文もあり。

●The school nurse told me like this. “You’re overweight. Lose five kilograms.”

→(A):told it to me like thisとする/(B)told me this,あるいはtalked to me like thisとする
